Shared note Gilbert J. (Davis) Markle graduated from Drum Hill High School in June 1922, two months short of 20 years old. He was working at Bell Labs in New Jersey by August of the same year. In 1925, he had one of the first "loud speaking telephones" in his house at 1106 Brown St., Peekskill. It had just been invented at the Bell Labs and patented in 1924.
He said that he was instrumental in developing the rotary dial for the Bell telephone while he worked there.

He began to work at NBC in 1933, age 30. He was married to Aline Hoffsteddar in June, 1934, divorced and remarried by November 1939 to Constance Gates, a singer who he met while "adjusting the mike for her," as the story goes.

He worked at NBC until 1968, age 65. He had always talked about one day going to the Canary Islands so as a retirement present his co-workers gave him a ticket to the Canary Islands. For some reason, he never used it.

"Pops fixed my cold feet with a pair of felt boots." -Gilbert J. Markle to Jan R. Markle, abt 1966.

Gilbert would commute on the NY Central from Peekskill to NYC when he first worked at Bell Labs, 1922-1929 (?)
