| Shared note | "The Seventh-day Baptist General Conference Yearbook", 1934, p 42. Clement Henry West, eldest son of Joel Clement and Esther Malvina Crandall West, was born at Shiloh, N. J., May 9, 1851, and went to his rest July 28, 1933. In the midst of the Civil War his parents moved to the wilds of Minnesota, Freeborn County. While still young he became a Christian. He was married to Miss Sarah D. Tickner, March 1, 1877. He helped to organize the Seventh Day Baptist Church at Cartwright, Wis., and was its first clerk. Leaving a good dental practice in Wisconsin, he moved to Farina, Ill., for the sake of church fellowship; here he served nineteen years as church clerk and was ordained deacon. His health led him to move, in 1910, to Riverside, Calif., where he carried on his exemplary Christian living, for many years our loved and highly esteemed senior deacon. Confident of his oneness with the Master, Doctor West looked forward with the keenest interest to the soon coming reward. Having been associated with Doctor West for over thirteen years, we esteem it a privilege to hear testimony to his faithfulness in service, to his gentleness in reproof, his sympathy in times of trouble, his generosity in times of need, his wisdom and caution in counsel, and his loyalty in faith and patience. He is survived by his faithful companion, an only daughter, Mrs. N. Olney Moore, and her husband, a grandson, Neal, and one sister, Mrs. Ella M. Tickner, of Oxford, Wis. Funeral services were in charge of his acting pastor, Rev. Edward S. Ballenger, in the Preston Funeral Parlors at 10 o'clock in the forenoon of July 31, and burial was in Olivewood Cemetery. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of the Lord." |
