| Shared note | Mary I. Bowman Mrs. Mary Idell Bowman, 85, of 301 N. Second St., Apt. 1, Bridgewater, VA 22812, died suddenly Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. Born June 15, 1913 in Ottumwa, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Rev. S. Leslie and Dulcie Lovie (Williams) Cover. She was the wife of the late Rev. Clarence Rufus Bowman, who died in 1998. Mrs. Bowman graduated from Bluffton (OH) College and Bethany Biblical Seminary of Chicago, IL. She was an organist, choir director and chorister. She directed a number of youth in dramatic productions. Following Rev. and Mrs. Bowman's retirements in 1976 from serving Church of the Brethren congregations in Maryland, Virgina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, California and Florida, Mrs. Bowman had been a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Ann Boyd of Sagertown, PA; two sons, Rev. Robert Cover Bowman of North Manchester, IN and Rev. John David Bowman, of Lititz, PA; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Bowman was the last of her immediate family, being predeceased by two brothers. Interment service was held Friday, April 16, at Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood, MD, with Rev. Fred Bowman officiating. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 17, at the Bridgewater College Chapel, with grandson, Rev. Christopher D. Bowman, officiating. The family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the Memorial Fund of Bethany Theological Seminary, 6415 National Rd. W., Richmond, IN 47374-4095. |
