Ellen Butler was born 19 February 1843 in Fairfield, Jefferson County, I owa, and died 28 September 1925, in Burwell, Garfield County, Nebraska. S he married on 22 December 1863 in Atlanta, Macon County, Missouri, to A ndrew Jefferson Davis, the son of Melvin Hopkins and Permelia Lydia (Lo ckwood) Davis, who was born 31 May 1831 in Rochester, New York. He die d 6 May 1905, Marceline, Linn County, Missouri. In his youth, Andrew, in 1853, went to California, where he engaged in m ining for nearly two years. He then moved to Missouri and settled in C lark County, where he began the study of medicine. He subsequently att ended lectures in Chicago, and soon afterwards began to practice medici ne in Clark County. He afterwards removed to Grundy County, Missouri w here he remained two years. He then settled in Bedford, Livingston Cou nty, Missouri, where he continued his practice for four years more. Fr om there he moved in 1866 to Bucklin, in Linn County, Missouri, where h e practiced medicine until 1874, when he moved to a farm five miles sou thwest of Bucklin, and engaged in farming. In 1888 he became one of th e earliest residents of Marceline, Missouri and lived there for the rem ainder of his life. |
