| Shared note | EARL H. DAVIS SR. Battle Creek Earl H. Davis Sr., 72, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at Arboridge Care Center. Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Assyria Township to Jay and Sadie (Penfold) Davis, he graduated from Bedford School and was a lifelong resident. He owned and operated Davis Service Stations and also owned a used-car dealership, retiring in August 1996. He also was employed by Emmerson Moving and Storage as a truck driver, was a Bedford Township firefighter in the 1940s and 1950s, and was a messenger with Security Bank in the 1960s. He married Ruth P. Ashbaugh on Oct. 22, 1942. She died Nov. 10, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Davis; and a sister, Bernice Gates. Surviving are sons, Earl Davis Jr. and Robert Davis of Battle Creek; a daughter, Marilyn Sue Lutz of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elwood Davis of Battle Creek Community involvement, hobbies: Enjoyed building race cars, welding crafts, teaching his grandchildren to fish, and fish frys; he was an expert fisherman. Visitation: 2 to 4 P. M. and 6 to 8 P. M. Thursday at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial: Ellis Cemetery, Assyria Township. Memorials: Good Samaritan Hospice Care of Calhoun County.
