| Shared note | "The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 200, No 1, p 24, Jan., 1978. Deacon LaVerne W. Davis was born in Verona, New York, on July 4, 1903, and died at Oneida, New York, on November 24, 1977. He was the son of Henry Eugene and Flora Williams Hyde Davis. On June 29, 1925, he was united in marriage with Ruth M. Sholtz at Oneida. He was a dairy farmer in the Town of Verona and was active in many agriculturally-related activities in the area. All of his life was centered around the Verona Seventh Day Baptist Church. In early youth, LaVerne accepted Christ as Savior and Lord and he was baptized and joined the First Verona Church in 1915. He served the church in many ways and was an ordained deacon for 32 years. In recent winters, he was also active in the Daytona Beach SDB Church. He served for some time on the Central N. Y. Association evangelism committee and for several years on the General Conference Ministerial Retirement committee. He is survived by his wife of Verona; four sons, Olin C. Davis of Oneida, the Rev. Duane L. Davis, Seattle, Washington, Kenneth W. Davis and Roger F. Davis, both of Verona; two sisters, Miss Ellen L. Davis of Oneida, Mrs. Genevieve Stone of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and eleven grandchildren. Another son, Willis E. Davis died in 1959. Funeral services were conducted at the Verona church by the Rev. Glen. Warner of Ashtabula, Ohio, with burial in the New Union Cemetery of Verona Mills. |
