| Shared note | Was in Senn H.S. ROTC Band (Chicago). (The band won the national ROTC band championship in Bill's senior year, as well as in several previous years. He "got tired" of Sousa's conducting the winning band. [per Aunt C] Attended DePauw, but did not complete degree. Attended (with his father) the famous Chicago Cubs/New York Yankees World Series game in Chicago when Babe Ruth pointed to right field and then hit a home run over the right field fence. His father's company always obtained a block of seats at World Series games in Chicago. [per Aunt C] Drummer in Herbie Kaye's Band in late 1930s & early 1940s. Dorothy Lamour was the first singer for Herbie Kaye's band, while Bill was his drummer. (Herbie Kaye was her first husband.) The band made recordings. [per Aunt C] Publicist for American Dairy Council (Chicago) in 1950s and early 1960s. Met 2d wife Jean Liner at Drake Hotel (Chicago) in 1945. |
